Frequently asked questions
Can I get help for anxiety or depression treatment online?
Yes, our online psychologists and GPs provide evidence-based anxiety treatment and depression counselling online, tailored to your needs.
Is telehealth suitable for complex conditions like schizoaffective disorder?
Telehealth can be part of a comprehensive care plan for complex disorders, with close monitoring and coordination with your healthcare team.
What is a Mental Health Care Plan?
It’s a written care plan created with your GP to manage mental health issues. It gives access to rebated sessions with psychologists and other mental health professionals.
How do I get a Mental Health Care Plan?
Book a consultation with one of our mental health-trained GPs. If you’re eligible, your online therapist will prepare your MHTP during the session.
What services are included in it?
An MHTP may cover: counselling, psychology, psychiatry, group therapy, medication, and lifestyle or self-help strategies.
How often can I get a Mental Health Treatment Plan?
Your online psychologist can issue a new plan when medically necessary. Rebated sessions reset every calendar year, up to 10 per year.
What if I’m not approved for a Mental Health Care Plan?
Plans are issued based on medical assessment. If you’re not eligible, your doctor will offer alternative care. Private consults and community options are also available.
Will I receive a referral during my appointment?
Yes, if clinically needed. Referrals to psychologists, psychiatrists, or allied mental health professionals may be included in your MHTP.
Will I get a prescription as part of my mental health consultation?
If suitable, your GP may prescribe medication or refer you to a psychiatrist. Medication is not always included in your treatment plan.
What does Medicare cover for mental health?
Medicare covers up to 10 individual or group sessions per year under an MHTP.
Can carers be involved in a MHTP?
Yes. Carers may join up to two sessions per year under the patient’s MHTP. See Services Australia for current eligibility.
Why is a Mental Health Treatment Plan important?
An MHTP provides access to rebated psychology sessions, improves care coordination, and offers a structured path toward better mental wellbeing.
How long does a MHTP last?
The plan doesn’t expire, but your Medicare session allowance resets annually (Jan 1-Dec 31).
Medicare rebates cover up to 10 sessions per calendar year–6 initially, with 4 more after review. Unused sessions may carry into the next year.
Who is eligible for a Mental Health Care Plan?
You must hold a valid Medicare card and meet clinical criteria. If you don’t qualify, private consultations and community mental health facilities are available.
